Biologist III/Trainer
Background:
This individual will be a key member of the Toxicology Team, responsible for performing and training the technical aspects of drug/medical device safety studies in compliance with approved protocols, company standard operating procedures (SOPs), international GLP, ISO, and animal welfare regulations, and AAALAC guidelines. This job requires experience with both large and small laboratory animals including primates.
Job Requirements:
12. At least a BA/BS in biology or a biologically-related discipline (AALAS certification highly desirable)
13. Excellent English verbal and written communication skills to be able to communicate clearly with other staff members, clients, and auditors; knowledge of written and spoken (Mandarin) Chinese highly desirable.
14. Strong background in animal research, teaching/training, and good problem-solving skills
15. At least 3 years of work experience post-graduation, preferably in a contract research organization (CRO) or a pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical company
16. Able to read, understand, and follow precisely written protocols and standard operating procedures
17. Able to lift 30 lbs and otherwise be physically able to work within an animal facility
18. Experience with the Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and ISO regulations highly desirable
19. Must work well in a group setting as well as individually
20. Must be flexible with working hours
21. Experience with computers, electronic data software, and laboratory instruments essential. Excellent quantitative skills are highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
The Biologist III/Trainer will perform and teach all in-life procedures necessary for the successful completion of Regulatory Toxicology studies including, but not limited to, evaluation of health status, measurement of feed consumption and body weight, blood collection, urine collection, and Test Article administration by various routes (eg oral gavage, capsule, intravenous, intramuscular, intraperitoneal, and subcutaneous). The position requires the professional application of the principles, theories, and techniques of animal research, animal handling, animal care, toxicology, and pharmacology. Specifically, this position requires:
12. Act as the Lead on toxicology studies and working closely with the Study Director
13. Handling all laboratory animals correctly and humanely to avoid injury to self or the animal
14. Recording raw data electronically or on worksheets and log books in a timely and accurate manner
15. Preparing animals for procedures (eg shaving, weighing, sedation)
16. Performing various procedures, which may include injections, application of skin patches, and implantation of test substances, clinical observations, and the collection of body fluids
17. Performing all assigned work in a timely manner, insuring that all tasks are completed
18. Maintaining laboratory equipment and work areas according to ISO/GLP regulations and company SOPs
19. Maintaining open, honest communications with all members of the study team
20. Assuring that the preparation of test articles has been done in accordance with the protocol prior to administration to test animals
21. Understanding the proper and safe use of hazardous chemicals
22. Understanding the proper and safe handling of potentially pathogenic materials
23. Ability and willingness to train technician candidates in all of the aforementioned skills
24. Act in a leadership role in the department and assist in the scheduling of study personnel to Sponsor projects
